Why should I adopt a weimaraner?
There are lots of good reasons to adopt rather than buy a dog, these are just a few of them
“…they know you saved their life”
When you adopt a weimaraner you are saving a life. When you buy a dog from a backyard breeder you are supporting a puppy mill that churn out puppies as fast as the mother can produce them. There are however a few reputable breeders of weimaraners in South Africa.
You get just as much love (if not more). An adopted weimaraner is every bit as loving, intelligent and loyal as a purchased one, even if you get an adult or older animal
Buying a dog from a breeder is very expensive. Adopting from Weimaraner Rescue is based purely on the costs incurred for the adoption
If you adopt, you get your choice of any age. Puppies are cute and cuddly; they can also be a handful. An adult or older pet may be a better fit for you

What is included
when you adopt from Weimaraner Rescue
Each and every weimie adopted from us will be sterilised/neutered, vaccinated and chipped. We will disclose any known health related issues. For weimaraners under the age of 1 year, we will require that they are enrolled for behavior training at a group close to your home. Should you require assistance in finding a training group please let us know, we will do enquiries.
In rare circumstances we will place a weimaraner without one or more of the above requirements, but this will be contractually agreed to be concluded within a set time limit. Proof of such must be provided by the vet in question.
In addition, we also require that each of our rescue weimaraners are provided with a collar and tag with their name and your contact details on it. Unfortunately chips are not failsafe so a second form of identification is required.
Our weimaraners can be placed anywhere within the boundaries of South Africa, and, should we believe that suitable arrangements have been made to ensure safe crossing of borders, we will allow this. For weimaraners that are placed inside the borders of South Africa, we will endeavour to provide rescue flights. There may be a small charge which applies to the rental of the crate.
Please note: These flights are based on availability and may be at extreme short notice, or take extended periods of time due to short supply of flights. We will take care of logistics where and if required.
Adopting from another rescue group
Weimaraner Rescue will assist in the advertising of dogs for other rescue groups, however….
In the interest of placing as many weimaraners in need Weimaraner Rescue will advertise weimaraners available through other rescue groups such as the SPCA. However, we are not able to make arrangements on your behalf.
You will need to contact them directly, complete their adoption forms and be subjected to any additional requirements they may have.
You will need to contact them directly, complete their adoption forms and be subjected to any additional requirements they may have. Some rescue organisations are happy for us to assist with the home checks, some not. Some charge an adoption fee, we have no control over how this is done.
We also, from time to time, will advertise hounds that may not necessarily be full weimaraners. These are often crosses with GSP’s, Great Danes, ridgebacks and other unidentifiable breeds. We will work closely with these rescue groups to do what is in the best interest of the hound.
We may also advertise so other breeds which we believe are great companions to weimaraners, or when a weimaraner already has a companion which also needs to be placed. We will always act in the best interest of the weimaraner and in some instances, cannot in good conscience split them.

Donate Any Amount
You are able to donate what you are able to afford from R100 and upwards -
Kennel stay (per day)
From time to time we are expected to provide emergency accommodation for our weimaraners in distress. We have secured kennel facilities both in Cape Town and Johannesburg and your donation of kennel days makes it possible for us to help more weimaraners.
-
Microchip
Each of our weimaraners are provided with a microchip prior to being rehomed. This has become increasingly necessary due to the high rate of theft of large breed dogs in South Africa.
-
Vaccinations
This donation will help cover any vaccination costs associated with any dog that comes into our care.
